What diagnoses are eligible for CARE?

Individuals may be eligible for CARE if they have one of the following psychiatric diagnoses and meet all other CARE eligibility requirements:

  • Schizophrenia spectrum disorders, which include:
    • Schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, schizophreniform disorder, other specified schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorder, unspecified schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorder.
  • Other psychotic disorders, which include:
    • Brief psychotic disorder, delusional disorder, schizotypal personality disorder, substance medication induced psychotic disorder, catatonia associated with another mental disorder, unspecified catatonia.
  • Beginning January 1 2026, bipolar I disorder with psychotic features will be included as an eligible diagnosis.

The following diagnoses do not meet CARE eligibility requirements by themselves:

  • Psychotic disorder due to a general medical condition.
  • Catatonia associated with another medical condition.
  • Major depression with psychotic features.
  • Bipolar 2 disorder.
  • Any other substance-related disorder not listed above, including psychosis solely due to current intoxication.
